Chelsea Crowned Champions

Chelsea and Carlo Ancelotti are worthy winners of Premier League title. Despite a squad getting on in years Carlo Ancelotti has created a free-scoring machine at Stamford Bridge who have been less accident-prone than their rivals. Chelsea have racked up 103 league goals, six more than the previous record total of 97 set by United in the 1999-00 campaign.

Chelsea have won the title by a single point, but their superiority is far beyond dispute. Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool, the other members of the usual elite, lost every game they played against Carlo Ancelotti's team. The Premier League trophy, after a four-year absence, has been swept back to Stamford Bridge.

It was a magnificent season for Rooney who carried the burden of his team on his broad shoulders. The surprise of the season has to be the way United withered when he went missing. No one saw that coming and, while United made a recovery of sorts, all seem to agree that their pallid performance when Rooney was not around cost them the title.

Achievement of the season ought to go to Spurs for finally cracking the top four, especially with an English manager and exciting young players. No matter what happens in Hamburg on Wednesday, just getting to the final is an immense achievement for a club of Fulham's size.

Prospect of the season should be Jack Rodwell, latest from the Everton production line. Stoke are to be congratulated on an excellent second season in the Premier League and a comfortable mid-table berth.
